Synopsis:My work applies to photodynamic cancer therapy, solar cells, and possibly the ability to modify proteins to impart new functions. With an array of optical spectroscopy techniques and computational simulations, I explore: 1) the conformational effects of binding porphyrins (light sensitive molecules) to the protein albumin, under various pH conditions and 2) the bound systems’ response to laser irradiation. The next stage will involve specific cancer cell receptors in place of albumin.
