Synopsis: Interpersonal skills are critical for successful special operation missions. In order to accomplish their mission goals, special operation forces (SOF) must build rapport with host nation personnel and lay the foundation for future relationships between the U.S. and host nations. Using a taxonomy of interpersonal performance dimensions (Carpenter & Wisecarver, 2004), we are refining this concept while integrating cultural awareness to better understand the necessary interpersonal skills for building rapport.
