Consortium Research Post-Doctoral Fellow, Air Force Research Lab, 711th Human Performance Wing/Human Effectiveness Directorate (AFRL 711th HPW/RHXS), Anticipate and Influence Behavior Division, Wright Patterson AFB, OH.

This Post-Doctoral Fellowship will require a candidate to work at the AFRL 711th HPW/RHXS in the Anticipate and Influence Behavior Division. This research will immerse the candidate in a one-year Research Fellowship to discover, design, and transition methods to understand and enhance interactions between humans and machines.

The research theme is Trust in Autonomy. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will conduct research on the social aspects of human-robot dialogue to include social characteristics of robotic speech that influence human trust and interaction with robotic systems. Variables of interest in this domain include trust, transparency (i.e., shared awareness and shared intent), human-robot performance, confidence, engagement, and individual differences.  The AFRL has several human-robot interaction platforms available to support experimentation in this domain. Some of those platforms include Open-Sim scenarios with human-robot teaming tasks, the Nao robot, and distributed human-robot interaction simulations.

The objective of this line of research will be to experimentally manipulate the social style of the robotic dialogue/interaction and measure the impact on human-robot performance, trust, among other psychological variables. Relevant skills include meeting with human subjects IRB requirements, using data analysis software (e.g., SPSS), experience with robotic platforms, designing and conducting experiments, and technical writing.  The Post-Doc may be expected to supervise research assistants and student interns.

The annual salary for this Post-Doctoral Fellowship is $70,763 based on the Federal Government 2014 pay schedule for GS-12, Step 1. The Fellowship offers health care insurance, retirement, and life and disability.
